Kung Fu Panda

One of the people responsible for the character designs of Kung Fu Panda is Nico Marlet, who also won an award for the same in Over the Hedge as well as others.

World of Warcraft's new expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, has been out for awhile, so it's time introduce the main artists behind most of Blizzard's game art.

Meet Glenn "Raneman" Rane, Peter "Drawgoon" Lee, Samwise Didier, Chris Mentzen, Michel & Rene "Twincruiser," and Travis "Thammer," otherwise collectively known as the

SONS OF THE STORM.

Sure, there's a lot of others who contributed their art to Blizzard, but these are the Six Young Men (Disney homage, what you got?) that lay the foundation of the studio's art desgn and direction.

Been working for a retail bookstore lately, and I just want to get used to the place, which may explain this two months hiatus. Anyhow, this place is packed with amazing book cover art, I might post some great stuff.

Here's one that caught my attention:

It's done by this guy named Dan Dos Santos.

What's amazing about this guy is that, in these days of digital CG painting, where the line between brush & stylus have been blurred, these guy still uses real brushes & paint.

What I bought from Switzerland

I dropped by at Lausanne, which seemed to me like a capital of European comics, or bande dessinee. I was supposed to go to Raspoutine which is the most famous, but the shop was closed, and it was before Labour Day; so instead, I went to the second best: Apostrophe

Apostrophe, at first sight from outside, looks small, but inside, there was a huge wall of BDs covering every wall of the shop, til it's 1st floor. On 1st floor, there were not only a collection of second-hand BDs, but also art & sketches by renowned European BD artists.

From there, I've bought my first BDs in Switzerland, Sillage, Volumes 9 & 10. Have a look:

As a free gift, the kind shopkeeper guy gave me this:

After that, I went to Crobar, which is up the street from Apostrophe:

Crobar, like Apostrophe, is a deceptively small shop from the outside, but inside is just as huge.
That's where I bought this exquisite book:

Notice a pattern here? I'm a huge fan of Sillage, as well as Philippe Buchet's art. Oh yeah, and tough space chick Navis.

Next I went:

Which is kinda like a Swiss version of Borders, & Tower Records. I went inside, and yes, there was a section dedicated to BDs, but I never expected that part to be just as huge. Walls of them.

That's where I bought this:

It was illustrated by Terry Dodson, which is the only reason I've bought this book. Check out the art:

And it wasn't just in Lausanne. Supermarkets, convenience stores, any places with a magazine section in Switzerland have dedicated BD sections. Not huge, yes, but then who doesn't sell Essential Spider-Man trade paperbacks in America?

Oh, and there were mountains, cheese, chocolates, huge ass lake, kebabs, statue of Freddie Mercury by the huge ass lake, but who cares, when I've bought comics from Switzerland.

My only regret here is that I've should've bought more, but it was nice preview to what I will buy in my future trips to Europe. Paris, Belgium or Amsterdam, perhaps.

I'd like to visit Europe again someday, just to buy more BDs.

Her name's Webi.

Oh sure, she's not unlike any other cartoon girls like the ones designed by Bruce Timm.

That is until I find out the same who drew Webi is the the same guy who designs this:

Freaking Unicron. Seriously.

Chowder mania has yet to hit my podunk country of Malaysia, but already has won hearts back in the US of A, with it's unique food-themed universe, and it's deceptively childlike atmosphere, but more importantly, it's characters, lead by the adorable Chowder himself.

But as you are in Chowder's grip (or tummy, depends), have you ever wondered, Who Draws Chowder?

Well, if you say CH Greenblatt, you're almost right, but a quick look at the credits, courtesy of the IMDb, has found two character designers:

Two things strike me about these images:
1) They're from an interactive "filmgame" called The Act from the company Cecropia.

2) The nurse is quite cute.

After further Google Searches, I came across these names on CGSociety:

They were former Disney animators, refugees from when Disney closed the Orlando animation division in 2003. So far, only Anthony Michaels' homepage came up after a few a Googles. Here it is:

PS: He's the breakdown artist behind Belle from Beauty And The Beast, which explains the nurse, Sylvia.

So who drew the cover art to the Gym Class Heroes' single Cupid's Chokehold?

It was Dave Crosland. Not only he did the cover above, he also did Scarface: Scarred For Life. He's now doing EVERYBODY'S DEAD to be published through IDW Publishing.

Found this pic on eBay.

Actually, I saw this cover a long time ago somewhere around 1999 til 2001 when I was in college. The Top Cow art style is what catches my eye. Or maybe it's her cleavage (:D Anyway, the game itself is published by the now defunct Insomnia Entertainment (nothing to do with the creators of Ratchet & Clank, Insomniac Games) What happened to them, I'm not quite sure.

A small google search of "EGR" and "art" together took me to her website. EGR, actually an acronym of her name Erica Gosich Rose is an illustrator from Canada with influences by street art. A few more art from her as a preview:
